NOTES ON A TECHNICAL SYSTEM

[2017]

VIDEO INSTALLATION
DOCUMENTARY

Notes on a technical system is a video installation regarding the upcoming establishment of industrial wind power parks in the island of Paros, Greece, and the reaction of the local community.

Following the privatization of the energy sector and in order meet the European target of 20% coverage of energy needs from renewable sources, Greece invested primarily to wind power by 77%.  Within this framework in 2011 the ministry of environment approved the installation of 22 Wind turbines of 100m high in Paros, all by private investors.

Since the announcement of the installation, local community along with the municipality and its fractions initiated operations against the establishment of wind power plants. The arguments circulate around the effects that the wind parks are expected to have on the local environment and economy while unfolding issues regarding political relations between local administration, the state and the European Union.

Interviewees also expand on techniques of propagation by related companies, political and economic operators, as well as, they explain how both they and the industries act within different frameworks (legal, political, illustrative) for the accomplishment of their goals.

Notes on a technical system was produced and presented within the framework of “The sun is barred from entering”,
